Rio Grande Valley Labs is a COLA accredited, CLIA certified high-complexity clinical laboratory in Alamo, TX and is the only combined molecular diagnostics and toxicology laboratory in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. Equipped with the most sophisticated and modern methodologies, we strive to continuously play a crucial role in high levels of patient care, accuracy in treatments, and disease prevention to fullfil the promise of precision medicine. RGVL fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare professionals, including pathologists, laboratory technicians, physicians, and researchers. Carlo Ledesma, Chief Scientific Officer and DCLS candidate, pioneered a technique for the rapid release of viral RNA and adopted it for clinical testing. Ledesma and colleagues were the first to utilize the Thermal Shock Viral RNA Release methodologyin molecular diagnostics to address supply chain issues and paved new opportunities for laboratories experiencing shortages and reagent availability to respond to the need in testing. The reduced TAT highlighted the role that clinical laboratories have in public health, emphasizing the need for rapid diagnostics during the pandemic. Ledesma et al, presented their findings at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Clinical Pathology in 2022.
